Investor and EPC Renerco Solar and project developer SunEnergy Europe Complete 31.5MW solar plant. What they look back upon with great satisfaction is the completion of the second largest PV Power Park in the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The installation was ready for operation even a few days before September 30th, the critical date to obtain the feed-in-tariff for large-scale solar power plants. Now the area of 40 hectares which used to be a military airfield during WW II has turned into a 31.5MW green energy power plant.
"All activities on the building site followed a well-conducted choreography", Edgar Gimbel, Renerco's construction manager, describes the progress. "As soon as the explosive ordnance disposal services had finished their job, the next team was on the spot to ram the foundations for the sub-structure." Within only 55 working days 130,000 photovoltaic modules were installed on an area of 40 hectares – enough to meet the electricity demand of around 7,600 homes."
Project developer SunEnergy Europe's CEO, Dr. Hartwig Westphalen, looks back upon the precision landing with pride. "The cooperative forces of investor Renerco Solar, the companies involved in the construction itself, as well as the public sector were highly professional and effective," Westphalen says, adding that "we could have hardly pulled this through without the great commitment especially from the administration in the city of Barth and the West Pomeranian-Rügen district."
Dr. Stefan Kerth, mayor of the city of Barth, is very pleased about the project: "Of course it makes us very proud to have one of our federal state's largest Solar Power Park here in Barth – we've got all reason to celebrate!"
On Saturday, October 13, the Power Park opened its gates to the public on the occasion of the official inauguration ceremony.
